National Alpaca Week
From 2 – 10 May 2026
Gumnut Valley Alpacas celebrates National Alpaca Week by hosting a range of activities and experiences for people to connect with these magical creatures. Whether you’re young, old or somewhere in between, whether you enjoy craft or fitness, looking to get alpacas, or just want to get up close and personal with them, we’ve got you covered!
2 May – Paint and Sip with Alpacas
Start time 12.00 End time 16.00 $85pp Bookings essential
Paint and Sip in the paddock surrounded by our friendly, inquisitive alpacas. Create your own stunning artwork with all paint supplies, instructions and support provided by Di & Bruce from Paint Sip and Giggle.
Enjoy a mini farm tour in the break to meet our adorable donkeys and cheeky dwarf goats, and browse our farm shop for giftware. A group photo will be taken at the conclusion of the session, before hand feeding the alpacas their favourite grain mix! Bottled water, light snacks and animal feed is included in the price, however alcohol and cold beverages are BYO.
3 May – Introduction to Alpacas Workshop

Morning tea is provided and participants will have an opportunity to meet some of our alpacas for sale. Workshop fees will be reimbursed for anyone purchasing alpacas within 3 months of the date of the workshop.
4 May – Alpaca Encounters for NDIS participants
Start time 10.00 End time 12.00 $15pp No booking required
NDIS participants are welcome to drop in to meet some of our very friendly and inquisitive alpacas, and hand feed them their favourite grains. No need to book, just arrive between 10am – 12 pm. The cost of $15 per participant is for entry into the alpaca paddock with a free cup of grains. Support workers can enter free of charge with their participants. Extra cups of grains can be purchased for $3. Free parking and toilet facilities available on farm.
5 May – Yoga with Alpacas
Start time 13.00 End time 14.00 $30pp Bookings essential
Ease yourself into a special Hatha Yoga class guided by Simmone from Simshakti Yoga at Gumnut Valley Alpacas. Surrounded by our friendly, inquisitive alpacas, enjoy a 45 min yoga class in the paddock, followed by a 15 min alpaca feeding session for total relaxation and pure bliss!
6 May – Drop Spindling Workshop

In this fun workshop, Textile & Fibre Artist Rebecca Muscat from Three Muscats Fibre Farm will teach the basics of spinning using a drop spindle, and show a variety of natural fibres suitable for spinning. All materials are included and you get your own take home drop spindle kit including 100gr of cleaned and carded rovings of natural fibre. Morning tea will be provided. Afterwards spend 15 min to hand feed the alpacas their favourite grain mix.
6 May – Fragrant Felt Workshop

A relaxing and creative workshop led by Australian textile and fibre artist, Rebecca Muscat of Three Muscats Fibre Farm. Roll, felt and shape natural alpaca and merino sheep fleece into beautiful soft felted spheres. Craft your own fragrance diffuser, adding essential oil and a pair of felted earrings with high quality stainless steel fittings. Afternoon tea will be provided. Afterwards spend 15 min to hand feed the alpacas their favourite grain mix.
7 May – Knit and Crochet with Alpacas

Join our wonderful farm volunteers Kerry and Jodie in a fun and friendly knitting and crochet session surrounded by our friendly, inquisitive alpacas. Bring your knitting or crochet project and enjoy watching the animals graze peacefully around you whilst you make new friends, share craft ideas, browse our range of yarn from our much loved alpacas in a range of natural colours, enjoy a lovely morning tea and learn more about alpacas.
8 May – Alpaca Craft for Homeschoolers
Start time 10.00 End time 12.00 $25pp Bookings essential
Inviting all homeschooled kids and their parent/carer to come along to meet our gorgeous alpacas and partake in an arty or crafty project. Colour in or fleece paint an alpaca picture, make scratch art decorations, opt for an alpaca pom pom art kit or do an alpaca cross stitch kit. Afterwards hand feed our beautiful alpacas their favourite grain mix and relax in their calming presence.
9 May – Alpaca Feeding

Come along to meet our friendly, inquisitive alpacas and feed them their favourite grain mix. Meet our 22 year old rescue Jemma, who is now living her best life watching over the weanlings. See our new Mums with their adorable crias and our pregnant females. Relax in their calming presence, take a selfie with them and they may even allow a neck scratch.
Feeding session scheduled after lunch, to allow sporty kids to be able to attend also. The costs of $10pp includes a cup of alpaca grains
10 May – Mothers’ Day Picnic with Alpacas

Treat Mum to a unique picnic experience this Mothers’ Day.
You will be guided to a gorgeous picnic setting in the paddock. Relax and enjoy a generous grazing board filled with sweet & savoury delights whilst watching our friendly alpacas graze peacefully beside you. Hand feed the alpacas their favourite grain mix and create lasting memories of sharing this moment with your loved ones. Bottled water incl, BYO other drinks.
