ALPACA WORKSHOPS

Gumnut Valley Alpacas runs workshops throughout the year for people interested in getting alpacas and want to find out more about their care needs, as well as for people who already have alpacas but don’t know how to provide the care they need.

Introduction to Alpacas Workshop

This workshop is designed for anyone considering getting alpacas and provides information and resources to be able to make an informed decision on whether alpacas would be the right animals for them.

Subjects covered include anything from the history of alpacas to paddock set up, catch pens, fencing, shelter, handling, haltering and moving alpacas, feeding, shearing, husbandry and general healthcare.

Husbandry Workshop

This workshop is tailored to new alpaca owners and provides information about halter training, body scoring, worm management, vaccines and supplements, shearing, mating and wound care with demonstrations of toenail clipping, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections and oral drenching.

As well as breeding our own alpacas, on average we take in around 20 alpacas per year that are either surrendered or rescued. We aim to reduce this number by providing education, support and advice.

Our workshops include morning tea as well as take-home resources. There is also n opportunity to meet some of our gorgeous alpacas listed for sale, with a range of pets, wethers, lawn mowers, breeding females,  pregnant females and herd guards available.

The cost of these workshops is $50pp. Anyone purchasing alpacas from us within 2 months of the workshop will get the fee discounted from the purchase price.

Bookings are essential, as our group size is limited to 12 people.
