Fleece and Yarn

Fleece

Gumnut Valley Alpacas have Huacaya alpacas in a variety of  colours. Although predominantly fawns and browns, we also have white, grey and black coloured alpacas.

The majority of our alpacas are shorn in September, with our young and elderly alpacas shorn once the weather warms up a bit more. 

The fleeces will be skirted with as much undesirable bits of guardhair and vegetable matter removed. Some of these fleeces will be available for sale for those wanting it for spinning or weaving. 

The fleece from around the legs, neck and chest is not usable for spinning or weaving, but is excellent for use in the garden. Anyone wanting some of this fleece is welcome to pick some up.

Yarn

The fleece saddles of our best quality alpacas are send away for processing by Adagio Wool Mills and turned into the warmest and softest skeins of pure alpaca yarn from our own beautiful alpacas.

Alpaca fleece is non-allergenic, extremely warm and does not have an odour.

Our next batch of 6 gorgeous coloured yarns should arrive just in time for our September Open Day.
